5 Skincare Myths To Stop Believing Now

You'll be shocked that these aren't true
5 Skincare Myths To Stop Believing Now

We've debunked the top 5 skincare myths.

Instagram is a beautiful thing, it gives us the opportunity to create, share and connect with people all over the world everyday. You meet new “Instagram friends”, connect with brands (we’re @balibody in case you’re wondering) and post cute selfies. It’s also fantastic for discovering new genius life hacks like how to self tan your back or finding out the best way to store an avocado so it doesn't go brown. The only issue is that sometimes the beauty secrets that go viral are nothing but a myth that needs to be squashed. Here are the top 5 skincare myths, busted.

Myth 1: You should exfoliate/scrub your body everyday
If you’re scrubbing your skin vigorously everyday, it’s time to step away from the loofah. Cleaning your skin of excess dirt and product residue is good. Depleting the skin of all its natural oils is bad. Exfoliating the skin everyday can strip the skin of its natural oils, which can result in sensitive skin and even trigger skin allergies like eczema or pruritus. When it comes to exfoliating and scrubbing, a ‘less is more’ approach is always best. We suggest you stick to exfoliating once a week.

Myth 2: Toothpaste can treat your pimples
You most likely heard this one from your Grandma, Mum or maybe even Gigi Hadid after she mentioned it a couple of years ago. Either way, it’s never stopped circulating as a hack to treat pimples. While toothpaste has been known to dry out unwanted pimples, it’s not going to treat them as well as active skincare products will. Battling a nasty pimple before a night on the town? Put the toothpaste down and head into Ulta to grab yourself a pimple patch instead. Pimple patches work by absorbing all the toxins trapped under your skin, while protecting your spots from dirt and bacteria.

Myth 3: You can’t use self tan if you have sensitive skin
False! While all self tanners are different, having sensitive skin does not restrict you from using them at all. It’s just about finding the best one to suit you. Thankfully, the Bali Body self tan range was created with sensitive skin in mind. Literally. Our Co-Founder, Laura Oosterloo suffered from eczema her entire life and wanted to create a natural range that looked good (no orange tones here) and didn’t flare up the skin. She bottled the most nourishing ingredients alongside 100% Natural DHA and created a self tan to suit even the most sensitive skin types. If you’re looking for the perfect self tan for sensitive skin, try the Bali Body Self Tanning Mousse and Clear Self Tanning Water

Myth 4: You don’t need to moisturise if your skin is oily
The truth? Oily skin can still be dehydrated. Sometimes the reason why your skin is so oily is because it is trying to overcompensate for the dehydration by overworking your natural oil production. The cure? Moisturise everyday. Get into the habit of lathering up your body as soon as you get out of the shower and your skin will love you for it.

Myth 5: You only need to wear SPF when you’re in the sun
Rain, hail or shine, the truth is that you should be wearing SPF on your face everyday. Just because you can’t see the sun, doesn't mean the UVB rays aren’t there. Adding some SPF to your daily routine is as simple as wearing a multi-tasking beauty balm like the Bali Body BB Cream SPF15. Consider it your tinted moisturiser, SPF and skincare all in one. It sounds too good to be true right? Add it to your routine for maximum glow and protection.
