In case you didn't know, 2020 is the year that you do something for yourself every a.m. Starting your day with clarity and purpose is a massive new year vibe. It's not about being perfect, it's about putting in that little bit of effort every day and committing to your new year, new you rituals. Whether you’re going to aim for 1 small change or 3, the key is to commit and the end goal results in positivity, happiness and productivity. All things which make us feel like we have our lives together. Ready to take the new year by the horns? Here’s 6 healthy morning rituals you can incorporate into your life for your best year yet.
Meditate
If it works for Katy Perry and Oprah, then it’s worth giving a try. Meditation is known to reduce stress, improve concentration and generate an overall sense of well being. It’s free, you can do it in the comfort of your own home and there’s so many ways to meditate, that you really can’t get it wrong. Just 10 - 15 minutes of meditation will put your mind at ease and help you find clarity for the day ahead.
Get moving
If being fit and fabulous is one of your news years resolutions then add this morning ritual to your list. You don’t need to do a hardcore full body workout every single day, just get moving. A big walk listening to your favourite podcast, a dance party in your lounge room or a pilates class are all just as acceptable. Moving your body in the morning will wake you up, get your endorphins pumping and keep you energized throughout the day.
Detach from your phone
Stop immediately scrolling through your phone as soon as you wake up. We know it’s 2020 and we’re all pretty attached to our phones but spending at least 30 minutes in the morning with no interruptions (alarm excluded) is a good way to start the day. To help make this new ritual easier, you can get an alarm clock and start charging your phone across the room rather than right next to your bed.
Journal your gratitude
It’s easy to be grateful for all the little things in life when you’re constantly reminded of them. Spending 5 minutes writing down 3 things you’re grateful for and 3 things that would make your day great is a very powerful way to start your morning. Investing in a gratitude journal will keep you accountable and could potentially be your best purchase of the new decade.
Eat a healthy breakfast
Food equals brain power. A healthy, nutritious breakfast will ensure you feel great while giving you the energy you need to power through those emails. It also starts your day off healthy which generally means you won’t be ordering fries on Uber Eats for lunch. Whether you eat as soon as you wake up or a few hours later, just make sure that your first meal is healthy and balanced. Avocado on grain sourdough or a green juice are a few suggestions.
Drink some water
This should do without saying, but hydration is key (for your body & skin). It’s especially important in the morning when you’re most likely really dehydrated about a big sleep. Get into the habit of drinking one cup of water while you write in your gratitude journal and another cup as soon as you finish your morning walk. See what we did there? You got this babe.
